This is probably one the biggest secrets I’ve ever kept!
My husband and I are thrilled to announce that we are expecting a baby boy due February 15th! It’s been a crazy past few months keeping this surprise a secret, especially since it’s been such an exciting time for us. I’m currently 15 weeks (almost 16 weeks) and I’m SO ready to not have to “pretend drink.”
We found out we were pregnant when I was only 4 weeks along. I had a feeling in the back of my mind that I was pregnant but told myself I wouldn’t check until I was at least two weeks late. But… that didn’t last. We were getting ready to go drinking with friends for trivia night and I snuck a pregnancy test in without my husband knowing before we left. And to my shock, it was positive! And it’s been “vodka cranberry orange drinks” ever since.
I’m not going to lie, my first trimester wasn’t the easiest (more on that in an upcoming post). After experiencing a miscarriage, it was hard for me to be excited about being pregnant when I had the fear in the back of my mind. I unfortunately was extremely nauseous (still am) and hit my low point when I threw up at 9AM driving under Lower Wacker drive (I’d like to think that those passing by just thought I had a really fun night!) From 6-9 weeks I also experienced bleeding that just sometimes happens to some women, but made me very anxious and nervous from the beginning. But as the weeks go by and our check-ups go well, it definitely helps put my mind at ease, and I can’t begin to express how much it helps to get advice and words of encouragement from the women in my life who have been through this.
I really wasn’t in a rush to announce my pregnancy to people outside of my family and closest friends. There’s something sacred and special about having just a few people know and keeping it a conversation between you and your partner. I honestly would have waited until after the big 20 week scan, but I figured people would start suspecting something is up and although I’m not really showing, I’m not sure how much longer it will be before my high-waist mom jeans give me away. 😉
My parents came into town a couple of weeks ago when we found out we were expecting a boy! My parents were in North Carolina a couple of months ago and my mom stopped into an antique shop and found a vintage Tiffany’s rattle. She bought it for me and decided to hold onto it until the day I became pregnant again, and I like to think it’s my good luck charm because that night is when I called them to let them know I was pregnant! I am really not into gender reveal parties, but my husband wanted to do something to celebrate when they were in town, so Heidy put together a little dinner for us and my parents at her place. I knew the gender but they didn’t, and she surprised us in the cutest way! She had a onesie made, along with a sign board, and came out with these adorable balloons. It was a night I will never forget and I’ll cherish the video from it forever – there were so many tears shed! How adorable is this sign Heidy made? I can’t wait for her son Oliver and my son to finally meet!
My husband and I are thrilled to start the journey of parenthood, and I feel so lucky to have my family, friends, and an amazing partner to go through this with. I’ll be sharing some of the things I’ve found helpful so far being pregnant and a recap of my first trimester on the blog, but for now, it’s back to googling things like “what is a bassinet used for?” and “do I need a degree to figure out how to swaddle a baby?” 😉
